Most breastfeeding women experience mastitis once or twice, usually early on. Then there’s a small handful of us who get it over and over again. It’s not surprising some mamas decide to give up breastfeeding altogether as there’s not a lot of support out there, emotionally or physically. All the parenting and baby books dedicate one or two pages to it and the average GP’s response is, “Rest, take these antibiotics and you’ll be right.”

I suffered from mastitis with all three of my children but by the time babe number three arrived I was determined to crack it and crack it I did. I finally understood what my body was trying to tell me so I listened and waved goodbye to mastitis. Feeling a bit evangelical about my triumph, I felt inspired to share my story and collect the stories of other women who had suffered from it and had some wisdom and empathy to offer. Dr Lisa Amir oversaw the project, making sure I got all my facts right. I’m no medical expert and she, after all, has a PHD in mastitis.

As well as offering emotional support, the book is packed full of practical information about how to care for breasts and nipples in order to steer clear of the common breastfeeding challenges that mothers can face, such as mastitis, nipple thrush and blocked ducts. Includes collected stories from other mothers who share their experiences.

“A useful companion for all mothers…the book offers a range of practical ideas…as well as emotional support and reassurance in the stories from other women.”

The Australian Breastfeeding Association Book Review

An invaluable support to the breastfeeding mother. This book is recommended by lactation consultants and midwives worldwide.
